RECAP: Softball Comes Up Empty At Jewell Sunday

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Truman Softball team lost a pair of GLVC games to William Jewell on Sunday. The Cardinals won game one 6-4 then were out slugged 10-9 as the Cardinals won in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two.

Truman fought uphill in the first game as they trailed 2-0 after one. Breianna Klein homered to cut the lead in half but Jewell tacked on a run in the fourth.

Cameryn Patterson scored on a fielding error in the fifth but a two-run homer, Hailey Wall's second in two at bats put the Cards up 5-2.

Ellie Weltha doubled in Emily Eberwine in the sixth and Maria McGonegle singled in Weltha to trim the lead down to one. However a one-out single scored an insurance run for the Cardinals.

The Bulldogs went in order in their last at bat.

Game two turned into a slugfest.

Emma Walbert scored on a wild pitch to stake Truman out 1-0 in the first.

The Cardinals took advantage of a pair of walks and an error to score three times in their half of the first to go up 3-1.

The Bulldogs exploded for seven runs, all with two outs in the top of the second. Nicole Havel got an infield single and scored on a double by Walbert. Weltha followed with a single to plate Walbert.

The big blow in the inning was a grand slam by Lauren Bowman to make it 8-3 in favor of Truman.

Jewell chipped away. They got two back in their second inning and countered Patterson's solo home run in the fourth with three of their own in that inning to make it 9-8.

A wild pitch tied the game in the fifth and the Cardinals would walk it off with a run after the first two hitters were retired in the seventh. A two-out single, followed by a stolen base and a hit from Wall again up the middle won it for Jewell 10-9.

Truman returns home for the final four regular season games of the season. The Bulldogs will host Rockhurst on Saturday and Southwest Baptist on Sunday with both days scheduled for noon starts.
