Two More Added To Truman State Softball Signing Class

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State Softball has added two more players to their 2023 signing class that was announced by Head Coach Ron Ferrill. Charlotte Chelich (Naperville, Ill.) and Cali Coombs (Russellville, Mo.) have both signed a National Letter of Intent.

Charlotte Chelich (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS)
In two varsity seasons thus far, Chelich has hit .445 in 59 games played with 12 home runs and 63 runs batted in. In the circle, she has a 17-6 overall record with four saves and a 2.15 earned run average. She has fanned 339 hitters in 179 innings pitched and set a school record for 21 strikeouts in a game. Chelich has earned all-league honors in both her sophomore and junior seasons prior to the start of her spring senior campaign.

Coach Ron Ferrill on Chelich: "Charlotte is a left handed pitcher/first baseman with some nasty junk in the circle. She was her conference pitcher of the year this year and averaged 2 strikeouts per inning. She can mix pitches going up and down as well as in and out. The reality is no matter what pitch she is throwing, it just moves coming out of her hand. Charlotte is also a powerful hitter and a solid defender that has the ability to move over to first base and help us out as well. Bottom line is Charlotte is an impactful player that will make the program better right away."

Cali Coombs (Russellville, Mo./Russellville HS)
Coombs has earned all-State accolades the past three seasons for Russellville as the Indians have won 20 or more games in that span cumulating in a third place finish in Missouri's class two this past fall. She has been a Show-Me all-Conference selection four times and was the league's most valuable player. She ranked third in the state in career doubles with 59 and fifth in runs scored with 163. Coombs finished her high school softball career with 191 base hits.  She has also earned all-District honors in the 100-meter hurdles and has been all-conference in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdle events.

Coach Ron Ferrill on Coombs: "Cali is a dynamic, long, speedy outfielder. Any time you can add an athlete that is a four-time all-region, three-time all-state, and a three-sport letter winner it is an impactful addition! Having four senior outfielders this year it was important that we added an impactful outfielder with speed in this class. Cali is that player. She has the ability to cover a ton of ground in the outfield, stretch singles into doubles, and make catchers nervous. It will be exciting to see how her Cali's athletic ability can impact our program.

The duo joins previous signed players Abbie Danchus, Sofia Birkenholz and Lily Arndt.
