Bulldogs Drop Pair To Michigan Schools On Friday

CHICAGO - The Truman State Softball team dropped both games on Friday to members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference at the Rosemont Dome Invitational. The Bulldogs fell 14-2 to Ferris (Mich.) State and 7-5 to Saginaw Valley (Mich.) State.

Truman wraps up the three-day event on Saturday with games against Hillsdale (Mich.) and Grand Valley (Mich.) State.

Ferris State 14, Truman State 2

Ferris State busted out the offense early and downed their Bulldogs counterpart 14-2 in the first game on Friday Ferris scored three runs in the first, four in the second and added two in the third before Truman found some footing.

Callie Unrein singled with one out in the third and Cameryn Patterson was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard. Maria McGonegle drove in Unrein with a single up the middle and Brieanna Klein brought Patterson home with a sacrifice fly.

However, Ferris would put the game away with a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning.

Saginaw Valley St. 7, Truman State 5

A back-and-forth affair went the way of Saginaw Valley State in the day's second game. The Cardinals broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh with two runs.

The teams exchanged runs in the first with Truman scoring on a single by McGonegle that plated Emma Walbert.

Unrein knocked in Lauren State to break the tie in the second with a line drive to center and she would score on a two-run double off the bat of Patterson.

The Cardinals tied the game with three runs in the top of the third. A wild pitch, RBI groundout and a double knotted the score at four apiece.

SVSU regained the lead on a sac fly in the fifth.

With two outs in their half of the sixth, Macy Taylor delivered a bunt single then after moving into scoring position with a stolen base, came in on Walbert's hit to left.

A single and infield hit put two on with one out and a full count walk loaded the bases for the Cardinals. A fielder's choice put SVSU on top 6-5 and a bases loaded walk added an insurance run.

Patterson and Taylor each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
