Another Split For Truman Softball In Chicago

CHICAGO -  The Bulldog Softball team concluded the Rosemont Dome Invitational with mixed results on Saturday. Truman State downed Hillsdale (Mich) 3-2 but lost to #9 Grand Valley (Mich.) State 12-0 in the nightcap. 

Truman is scheduled to play at home for the first time in 2022 as they will host Northwest Missouri State at noon for a doubleheader on Wednesday. 

Truman State 3, Hillsdale 2

A sacrifice fly by Brieanna Klein in the bottom of the sixth broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Truman Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over the Hillsdale Chargers.

Hillsdale took the early lead with an RBI single in the third.

Maria McGonegle knotted the game with a hit to left that scored Callie Unrein in the bottom of the fourth.

The Chargers jumped back on top in their next at bat with a bases loaded walk issued.

In Truman's fifth, Kayla Quanstrum hit a one-out double and moved up on an infield single by Macy Taylor. Emma Walbert brought Quanstrum in with a fielder's choice but the Bulldogs left two on base.

Klein came into pitch for after the first two reached via walk in the sixth and was able to freeze the hitter with two runners on with a called third strike.

McGonegle led off the sixth with a triple and Klein lofted a ball to center allowing McGonegle to trot in for the 3-2 lead.

Klein worked around a leadoff error in the seventh to pick up with W.

#9 Grand Valley State 12, Truman State 0

The ninth-ranked Grand Valley (Mich.) State Lakers shutdown the Bulldog offense, limiting Truman to only two hits while defeating the Bulldogs 12-0 on Saturday night.

Truman went toe-to-toe with the Lakers through the first two innings and neither team put runs on the scoreboard.

Grand Valley struck with a four-spot in the third inning. The first three hitters reached and a single to left opened the scoring at 1-0. A passed ball followed by a two-run single made it 4-0 GVSU.

Back-to-back doubles to start the fourth followed by a hit made it quickly 6-0 in favor of the Lakers.

They would add another run in the sixth and put five up in the seventh.
