Truman State Softball Loses Pair To Missouri-St. Louis

ST. LOUIS - The Truman State Softball team grabbed early leads in both games against Missouri-St. Louis but couldn't hold on as they dropped both ends of their GLVC doubleheader this afternoon.

Truman will be back in action across the Missouri River on Sunday facing Lindenwood University at noon.

Game 1: Missouri-St. Louis 8, Truman State 3

The Bulldogs struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning. Both runs came with two outs as Kayla Quanstrum doubled to plate Emily Eberwine and Taylor Spencer followed to bring Quanstrum home with a single through the left side.

UMSL responded with three straight singles, the third driving in two runs to tie the game and chase Truman starter Annabel Zimmer. An RBI double followed and a single to left made it 4-2 Tritons.

Cameryn Patterson's RBI single scored Emma Walbert to cut the UMSL lead to 4-3 in the top of the sixth. However, a hit followed by a three-run home run with two-outs in the bottom of the frame added another four runs to the UMSL lead.

Patterson collected two of the Bulldogs five hits in the first game.

Game 2: Missouri-St. Louis 7, Truman State 2

Truman again were the first team to score as Maria McGonegle hit a two-out RBI single that scored Callie Unrein in the first for a 1-0 lead.

UMSL would tie the game in the second on a sacrifice fly with one out as an error allowed the runner to move into scoring position.

Macy Taylor singled to start the fifth for Truman and advanced on a sac bunt from Emma Walbert. Ellie Weltha picked up the RBI with a single up the middle but Truman stranded a pair of runners on base.

The Tritons put their first two on with hits in the fifth, then after a out, an RBI single to right tied the game. A single, walk, single and three run double made it quickly 6-2. A bases loaded walk extended the lead out to five runs.

Truman left a runner on in the sixth and went down in order in the seventh to fall in game two.
