KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Making their final appearance as a Division II team at Truman State University, the University of Southern Indiana took a doubleheader from the Bulldogs winning game one 16-2 and the finale 11-2.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday at noon hosting McKendree University.
The Screaming Eagles are reclassifying to the NCAA Division I following the academic year.
Game 1: Southern Indiana 16, Truman State 2
The Screaming Eagles scored in each inning as they racked up 16 hits to go along with 16 runs in the first game of the doubleheader. USI scored a pair in the first, added three in the second and two in the third to lead 7-0.
The Bulldogs scored their two runs on a laced double to right center field off the bat of
Cameryn Patterson. That scored
Callie Unrein and
Emma Walbert.
However, USI did their most damage in the fourth inning as they tallied six runs on five hits.
Game 2: Southern Indiana 11, Truman State 2
Southern Indiana sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the first as they scored 11 times in the nightcap. Four of the first five hitters had extra base hits for the Screaming Eagles, including a two-run home run by Rachel Martinez. The inning was capped by a grand slam from Jordan Rager.
Truman got both their runs in the second inning.
Cameryn Patterson and
Lauren Stade both walked to start the frame.
Breianna Klein hit a ball to short that was muffed to load the bases.
Maria McGonegle launched a sac fly to center for the first run.
Taylor Spencer hit a ball up the middle that the second baseman's only play was the force at second allowing Stade to touch home.
Rager would drive in six runs for USI with two hits in three at bats with Spencer picking up the lone hit for Truman State.
