EVANSVILLE, Ind.—After a dramatic series opener Thursday night, the Truman Baseball team was back on the diamond on Friday taking on the USI Screaming Eagles. In game one Jordan Marlott (2-0) picked up the win with two innings pitched in relief of Connor McKenna, and Holden Missey picked up the save; his fifth of the year. Game two reached the top of the sixth inning before being halted due to rain. The teams will finish the final two innings of the game tomorrow.
Game One
USI scored the first three runs of the game, one in each of the first three innings. After stranding a runner 90 feet away in the first, the Bulldogs got on the board in the fourth with a two out walk from Missey and a subsequent two run bomb to left center to make it a 3-2 game. In the bottom of the fourth USI got one run across to make it 4-2, but in the top of the fifth Truman struck again to tie the game. Back to back one out walks put runners on first and second, and both moved up on a wild pitch. A clutch two out hit but Brennan Perkins through the left side evened the game at four.
In the top of the sixth, Dakota Spicer got a one out double down the left field line and then Sam Smith followed with a single to center to put runners at the corners. Dylan Thompson came in to pinch hit and singled to bring Spicer in and give the Bulldogs their first lead at 5-4. Smith advanced to third and Thompson reached second on a throwing error. Simon Murray followed with an RBI line out to centerfield and Smith scored to make it a 6-4 game.
Game Two
The Bulldogs got on the board first in the top of the second with Missey hitting a homer to center field to start the inning. Fromm followed with a double, and Thompson with a one out double to put two runners in scoring position. Smith flied out to bring Fromm in and make it 2-0 and Tal Dean singled up the middle to bring in Thompson and make it 3-0.
Missey homered again in the third inning to make it 5-0 Bulldogs. USI got one back in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-1. In the top of the fifth, Missey walked with one out and Fromm singled to put two on. Thompson hit a two out double to left to bring two runs in. Smith then doubled to right and Thompson came in to make it 8-1. In the top of the sixth, Luke Turner walked with one out, Missey singled through the left side with two outs and Fromm drove Turner in with a single to right. Spicer reached on an error to bring Missey in to make it 10-1 and Thompson reached on an error to bring Fromm in to score.
The game was halted due to rain after that and will resume tomorrow morning.
