Bulldogs Resume GLVC Play Against Quincy

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Men's basketball hosts GLVC opponent Quincy on Thursday, January 5th, at 7:30 p.m. in Pershing Arena.

Against Quincy:

Quincy goes into the game with a 7-5 record, 3-1 in GLVC play, and riding a three-game win streak. The Hawks have defeated Hannibal-LaGrange, Pittsburg State, UINDY, Lewis, Drury, East-West University, and Lake Superior State. Their lone conference loss was at University of Illinois Springfield, where they were defeated 88-53. Quincy has also lost to Findlay, Cedarville, Missouri Southern, and Grand Valley State.

The Hawks are coached by Steve Hawkins, who coached at Division I Western Michigan University from the MAC from 2003-2020, where he went 291-262. He led Western Michigan to seven 20-win seasons and two NCAA Division I tournaments. Prior to Western Michigan, he coached Quincy where he was successful. Hawkins had a record of 137-111 and appeared in three NCAA Division II tournaments. He has a career record of 435-378.

Quincy is led in scoring by Paul Zilinskas, who averages 11.3 points per game, along with 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks. Zilinskas has a career average of 9.8 points per game over three seasons.

Jamaurie Coakley leads the team in assists with 2.3 a game. He is tied with Isaiah Foster with 9.8 points per game and grabs 4.4 boards a game.

Zion Richardson averages a team-high 5.0 points per game and scores 10.6 a contest which is good for second on the team.

Quincy averages 73.7 points per game, and allow 69.4 for a 4.3 scoring margin.

Bulldog Tidbits:

Truman State Men's basketball looks to stay hot against the Hawks, as they are on a three-game win streak. They defeated Culver-Stockton (77-47), Grand View (89-68), and Southwest Baptist of the GLVC (73-63).

The Bulldogs handled Culver-Stockton 77-47 in their last game.

Truman went into the half with a big lead, up 43-25 over the Wildcats.

Truman had another dominant half in the second, adding another 34 points to reach 77, holding Culver-Stockton to only 22 in the half.

Trey Shearer had a remarkable performance, putting up 17 points on 6-6 shooting. Shearer hit all five of this 3-point attempts, and added an assist and a rebound to the stat sheet as well.

Elijah Hazekamp was second in scoring with 13 on 5-11 shooting and three 3's.

CE Talton dropped eight points on 4-5 shooting, followed by Xavier Hall and Hunter Strait with seven each, then Dylan Peeters, Nduka Ogwu, and Bradley Andrews each scored six. Devin Fields scored five points and Caleb Schlaak got a bucket in the game as well.

Peeters added five assists and four rebounds to his six points.

Truman is led in scoring by Elijah Hazekamp. Hazekamp averages 14.7 points per game, followed by Hunter Strait with 11.2, Xavier Hall with 8.3, and Trey Shearer with 7.8

Hall leads the Bulldogs in assists with 3.5, Strait is second with 2.5 a game.

Truman head coach Jeff Horner tied Chris Foster for career wins after defeating Culver-Stockton. Horner is tied for fifth in wins as a Bulldog.

The Bulldogs have three-straight home games following Quincy. They play William Jewell, Rockhurst, and Southwest Baptist.
