Truman Men's Hoops Conclude Regular Season At William Jewell

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Men's basketball (12-15, 7-12 GLVC) go to Liberty, Mo. to play William Jewell (14-13, 11-8 GLVC) on Saturday, February 25th, at 3 p.m. in the regular season finale. The game will be at the Mabee Center on William Jewell's campus.

Against William Jewell:

The William Jewell Cardinals are 14-13 this season and 11-8. in GLVC play. They are on a one-game losing streak currently, losing to Illinois Springfield 73-65 on February 18th. Prior to the defeat to UIS, the Cardinals defeated Quincy 66-53 on February 16th. William Jewell is in a three-way tie for third place in the GLVC, even with UMSL and SBU. The Cardinals have some impressive victories this season, beating UIS (73-63) and SBU (85-69). William Jewell defeated Truman State 73-64 on January 12th in Pershing Arena.

The Cardinals do not score a lot as a team (69.7 PPG, 12th in the GLVC), but play great defense (66.1 PPG allowed, second in the GLVC). They boast the best defense of the three in the conference, holding opposing teams to only .326% shooting. 

Jermain Jordan is their best scorer, dropping an average of 15.6 points per game, good for fifth-best in the GLVC.

Heri Tshiyoyo is the league's best rebounder, pulling down 8.9 boards a contest.

Mason Alexander's 3.15 assists per game is ninth-best in the GLVC.

Bulldog Tidbits:

The Bulldogs are 12-15 in total this season, 7-12 in GLVC play, 7-6 at home, 4-9 on the road, and 1-0 in neutral site games. They are currently on a two-game losing streak, dropping games at Quincy (83-75), and at Rockhurst (91-82).

Last game, Truman took Rockhurst to overtime, but the Bulldogs were unable to come out with the victory.

Truman finished the first half with a 43-37 lead, with Elijah Hazekamp leading both teams in scoring with 13. The Bulldogs shot 15-31 (48.39%) and 6-17 (35.29%) from behind the arc. Rockhurst had a similar first half shooting, going 12-27 from the field and 4-12 from three.

Rockhurst outscored Truman 39-33 in the second half to take the game into overtime, with Hunter Strait scoring 14 and Trey Shearer scoring 10. Rockhurst's Rich Byhre, the top scorer in the GLVC, exploded for 22 points.

In overtime, Rockhurst outscored Truman 15-6, with Dylan Peeters scoring four points and Xavier Hall with two.

Hunter Strait, Trey Shearer, and Elijah Hazekamp finished with double-digit points. Strait ended the night with 20, Shearer dropped 16, and Hazekamp was right behind with 15.

Elijah Hazekamp is eighth in scoring in the GLVC, scoring 15.2 points per game. His 7.3 rebounds a game is fourth-best in the league, and is the third-best free throw shooter in the GLVC.

Xavier Hall will finish his first regular season as a Bulldog as one of the league leaders in assists, dishing out 3.88 per game.

Hunter Strait will finish this regular season as one of the most accomplished Bulldogs of all time. This season, Strait has started all 27 games, played the most minutes (32.6 per game), is second in scoring (12.8), and is second in assists (3.9).
