ORLANDO - The Bulldog Softball team was on the short end of two close games in Florida on Saturday. Truman State nearly erased a five-run deficit before falling 6-5 to St. Thomas Aquinas in the first game and lost 5-3 to Wayne State in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs return to the fields tomorrow with games against New Haven and Molloy University.

St. Thomas Aquinas 6, Truman State 5

Only one of the Spartans six runs was earned as five Bulldog errors aided their cause in the 6-5 defeat. 

Aquinas led 5-0 after four innings before Truman found their groove. Callie Unrein singled to start the inning and swiped second base. She was moved up on a bunt by Alivia Daniels and scored on an RBI single to right from Cassie Smith.

A double in the sixth got the Spartans the run back that would prove to be crucial. 

The first two Bulldogs were quickly retired in their last at bat but Maria McGonegle singled to center. Smith followed with a hit and went to second on the throw to try and get McGonegle going for third. Macy Taylor brought in both runners with an RBI single to left to make it 6-3.

Cameryn Patterson kept the train moving as she reached via error allowing Taylor to score.

Breianna Klein followed with an infield hit and Brooke Nutter reached on an error scoring Patterson and moving the tying run into scoring position. 

A key strikeout ended the game giving Aquinas the one-run win.

Wayne State 5, Truman State 3

The Warriors scored single runs in the first three innings before Cameryn Patterson drove in Macy Taylor with the Bulldogs' first run with a double in the bottom of the third. 

Wayne tacked on two more in the fifth to go up 5-1.

Smith was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on Patterson's second hit of the game in Truman's fifth. Patterson moved up on a stolen base and Mackenzie West got the two runners in on an error by the second baseman. 

Truman got the tying runs aboard in their half of the seventh but a fly ball ended the game.
