Bulldogs Hit The Road For Games Against Quincy & UIS

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Bulldogs of Truman State play two games on the road this week, with matchups at Quincy and Illinois Springfield. The Quincy Hawks are 8-6 and 3-3 in the GLVC, and UIS is 11-5 and 4-2 in league play. Quincy sits at eighth in the GLVC and UIS is fourth behind Upper Iowa, UMSL, and UINDY.

Quincy is coming off an 80-66 loss at Rockhurst on January 3rd, and a 66-50 win against SBU at home on January 6th. The Hawks' three conference wins came against Maryville, McKendree, and SBU. 

In their last game against SBU, Zion Richardson led the Hawks in scoring with 15 on 6-14 shooting. Richardson also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Nate Shockley was second in points with 12, and Isaiah Foster was third with 11.

Jake Hamilton led Quincy in assists with four.

The Prairie Stars played Drury at home on January 3rd, winning 79-75 and fell to William Jewell 76-73 at home on January 6th.

In their previous game against William Jewell, UIS had four double-digit scorers. Jacob Hanna led with 16 on 6-9 shooting and had 11 rebounds for a double-double. Hanna also had a team-high six assists.

Max Kunnert was second in scoring with 14, and both Jordan Rice and Jack Weber both had 11.

The Truman State Bulldogs took two losses last week against UINDY and UMSL. The Bulldogs fell to UINDY at home 86-48 on January 3rd, and lost 81-67 at UMSL on January 6th.

Against UINDY, the game was tied 11-11 with 12:08 left in the first-half until the Greyhounds went on a 10-0 run to take an early advantage. Truman State clawed their way back and cut the lead to five at the 4:33 mark, but UINDY gained momentum back and went into the half up 34-25.

The second-half is where UINDY started to pull away, going up 25 with more than 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The Greyhounds soon went on to take over the game, winning by 38.

Blaise Porter was Truman's top scorer with 10. He was the only Bulldog to reach double-digit points Porter also had two rebounds and two assists.

Trey Shearer, Xavier Hall, and Casen Lawrence all had six points each. Hall and Shearer each had three assists which led Truman.

Joe Knutson, CE Talton, Brennan Lovette, Kobi Williams, and Jermarco Burse all recorded points in the game.

Against UMSL, both teams were trading leads for more than 10 minutes in the first-half before the Tritons gained momentum and went into the break up 42-25.

The Bulldogs found themselves down 17 to began the second-half and tried their best make a comeback. Truman cut the UMSL lead to single-digits three times over the last 20 minutes of the game but were unable to swing the game back in their favor.

The Tritons went on to win the game by 14 and the Bulldogs fall to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play.

Landon Eiland led Truman in scoring with 13 points on 4-8 shooting. He also had three rebounds.

Casen Lawrence and Matt Haefner both had 12 points, being the other two players with double-digit points for the Bulldogs. Lawrence shot 4-7 from the field and three while recording a rebound, an assist, and a steal. Haefner had three boards and two assists.

Blaise Porter had a team-high in assists with 7 and four Bulldogs had two assists which led the team.

Brennan Lovette had Truman's only block in the game.

For Quincy, Zion Richardson leads the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game, and has a team-high 194 points despite playing in 13 of their 14 games. Richardson also grabs 5.8 boards per game which is the most on the Quincy team.

Isaiah Foster averages a team-high 2.9 assists per game, and Nate Shockley is at 2.2 which is good for second.

For UIS, Jordan Rice, Jacob Hanna, Jack Weber, and Max Kunnert all average double-digit points. Rice leads with 15.7, followed by Hanna with 13.8, Weber with 12.2, and Kunnert with 11.4. Jayden Johnson is on the cusp at 9.1 points.

Kobi Williams continues to lead Truman State in points, averaging 10.8 per game. Trey Shearer and Xavier Hall are right behind with 10.2 each. Brennan Lovette is near the 10-point average, scoring 9.3 a contest.

Landon Eiland is the leading rebounder for the Bulldogs, grabbing 4.6 per game. Williams and Lovette are over 3 per game, with Williams having 3.3 and Lovette at 3.1.

Xavier Hall has a sizable lead in assists per game with 5.0. Trey Shearer and Williams are the closest behind Hall, with Shearer averaging 2.3 and Williams with 2.1.

Hanna leads the squad with 6.7 rebounds per game, and Rice averages a team-high 4.9 assists.

Following Truman's two games against Quincy and Illinois Springfield, the Bulldogs return to Kirksville for games against Southwest Baptist and Drury.
