Bulldogs Look To Increase Winning Streak On The Road

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Men's basketball is on a three-game winning streak following two more victories against Southwest Baptist and Drury. The Bulldogs defeated Southwest Baptist 84-58, and Drury 68-63. Both games were played at Pershing Arena, and this week Truman plays at Rockhurst and William Jewell.

Against SBU, most of the first-half of the game was close before a three from Kobi Williams, a layup from Joe Knutson, and a layup from Williams put the Bulldogs up 37-29 with 0:45 left in the half. The Bearcats hit two free throws with 0:30 left to go into the break trailing by six.

The Bulldogs got off to a blazing start in the second-half, going on an 8-0 run after SBU cut the lead to four. Truman State would not let the Bearcats back in the game, playing excellent defense and consistently hitting shots. The Bulldogs truly pulled away with 5:50 left in the game, going up 20 after an Xavier Hall three. Truman only increased their lead by the end of the game, winning 84-58 to earn another GLVC win.

Trey Shearer had a hot hand for Truman, dropping 24 points on 6-10 shooting from three. 

Kobi Williams had 19 points along with five rebounds, three assists, a block, and two steals.

Xavier Hall was the final Bulldog with double-digits, scoring 10 on 3-7 shooting. Hall had two boards, six assists, a block, and two steals.

Joe Knutson, Landon Eiland, Casen Lawrence, Cooper Randall, Jermarco Burse Jr., Blaise Porter, and Matt Haefner all scored points as well. Tobias Reiner played but recorded no stats.

Despite not scoring, CE Talton had three rebounds and five assists.

Against Drury, the Bulldogs got out to a 15-2 lead over the Panthers with 13:46 left in the first-half. Truman's lead was double-digits with 3:27 left, but Drury made their way back into the game and cut the lead to one going into the half.

Truman went up 50-42 with 12:54 left in the game, and kept a lead until the 6:39 mark when Drury tied it up. With the game tied 63-63, Casen Lawrence hit a massive 3-pointer with 0:48 left to take a 66-63 lead. Kobi Williams and Trey Shearer both hit free throws late to ice the game, taking home a five-point win.

Matt Haefner had a monster game, scoring a career-high 20 point on 8-11 shooting. Haefner went 4-6 from three and and had eight rebounds and a block.

Kobi Williams had another double-digit scoring game, dropping 13 on 2-7 shooting from the field. Williams got eight of the points from the free throw line, going 8-12. He also had seven boards, one assist, one block, and one steal.

Xavier Hall had a game-highs in assists with seven, and steals with three.

Kobi Williams leads the Truman State team in points with 13.1 on .442 shooting. Williams grabs 3.4 rebounds which is second on the team, and 2.0 assists which is third. His 1.2 steals is also first on the squad and 0.4 blocks is good for second.

Trey Shearer is second in scoring, averaging 11.4 per game. He is shooting .496 from the field and .449 from three. He leads the team in minutes with 31.2 per game.

Xavier Hall is reaching the double-digit points mark, averaging 9.9 per game. He is shooting .435 from the field and .341 from three. His 4.9 assists is tied for third-best in the GLVC.

Williams and Shearer have been remarkable in conference games, with Williams averaging 14.1 points and Shearer dropping 13.5. Williams is ranked 15th in scoring in conference games.

The Rockhurst Hawks are 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the GLVC. They are 5-5 at home and 3-4 on the road. Their conference wins are against UMSL (62-46), Quincy (80-66), Lewis (94-72), and Missouri S&T (91-79). The Hawks are 2-3 in their last five, with wins coming against Lewis and Missouri S&T.

Timaris Brown leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game. Brown also leads in rebounding with 5.8, and is third in assists with 1.6. Timaris also averages 0.4 blocks per game which leads the team.

Miles White puts up 11.7 points per game and hits a team-high 2.2 three-pointers per game.

Brian Hawthorne is third in scoring, scoring 8.6 per game. Hawthorne is second in rebounding (4.8), first in assists (3.2), and first in steals (1.6).

In Rockhurst's last game, a 70-69 loss at Maryville, Miles White scored 21 points on 7-12 shooting. He went 4-6 from three and had eight rebounds. Timaris Brown had 16 points on 6-11 shooting and also had five boards and two assists.

The WIlliam Jewell Cardinals are 11-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Cardinals are 4-2 at home, 4-3 away, and 3-1 at neutral sites.

Jordan Jermain and Kobe McKinley are both averaging 16.2 points per game which is tied for fith in the GLVC. Jermain averages a team-high 3.1 assists, and plays 36.1 minutes which is most in the league.

McKinley averages 1.9 takeaways per game, and is third on the team in rebounds with 4.7.

Grant Stubbs (12.0), Isaac Patterson (11.6), and Trey Shannon (10.6), are William Jewell's other double-digit scorers.

William Jewell's last game was a 78-72 win at Missouri S&T on January 20th. Kobe McKinley dropped 23 points on 7-12 shooting. Jordan Jermain was close to 20 points, scoring 18 on 5-13 shooting and 4-7 form three. Justice Sutton and Isaac Patterson also had double-digit scoring games. Patterson had eight rebounds, and McKinley had a team-high four assists.
