Bulldog Women’s Soccer returns to GLVC postseason despite 3-0 loss to UMSL

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Truman State Women's Soccer claimed the eight seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) postseason tourney after all four teams vying for the last ticket lost Sunday afternoon.

The UMSL Tritons (12-3-2 overall, 9-3-2 GLVC) dealt the Bulldogs (5-8-4 overall, 4-7-3 GLVC) their second-consecutive 3-0 loss over the weekend to prevent the Purple and White from winning the final spot outright. Upper Iowa, Quincy (Ill.), and Missouri S&T all faced daunting win-and-in contests with the four facing opponents featuring a combined record of 38-9-5 in UMSL, McKendree (Ill.), Maryville (Mo.), and Rockhurst (Mo.), respectively.

After falling to conference regular-season champ, and first-round opponent Maryville, Friday, the Bulldogs were once again blitzed by more than 20 shots in the UMSL defeat. Senior keeper Tatumn Damron, playing in her final regular season match for Truman State, tallied eight saves against the 11 shots on goal by the Tritons. UMSL's Aubree Wallace scored the game-winning goal in just the second minute of play with subsequent tallies in the 59th and 74th minutes.

The 2024 campaign marks the first Bulldog entry into the conference postseason tourney since 2021 when they netted the third seed against first-round matchup against Missouri S&T. Truman State lost to the Miners, 2-0, in a Nov. 7 contest at the Bulldog Soccer Park in Kirksville. Mike Cannon, Truman State's head coach since 1993 with 379 wins as Bulldog taskmaster, has guided the Purple and White to the GLVC tourney in 10 of 12 seasons including a tournament championship in 2015.

Details regarding first round will be available at trumanbulldogs.com Monday.
