JOPLIN, Mo. - The Truman State Softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Missouri Southern on Saturday. The first game was 12-4 and the nightcap was 14-1. Truman will head across the state line on Sunday to face Pittsburg (Kan.) State in a twin bill starting at noon.
Missouri Southern 12, Truman State 4
The Lions exploded for five runs after the Bulldogs had cut the Missouri Southern lead down to 6-4 in a 12-4 loss in game one. Brieanna Klein went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Truman State.
Klein got the 'Dogs on the board in the first with an RBI single in the first, but the Lions put up three of their own in their first at bat.
Southern would tack on three more in the second.
Charlotte Chelich hit and RBI double in the third and Klein followed with a two-run homer to cut the lead down to 6-4. However, the Bulldogs just couldn't get the outs in the bottom of the inning and Southern scored five times and added another in the fourth to win in five innings.
Missouri Southern 14, Truman State 1
Game two was all Lions as they scored four runs in each of the first three innings. The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Charlotte Chelich that plated Emily Wood.
Wood went 2-for-2 at the plate and added a stolen base.
