LEBANON, Ill. - The McKendree Bearcats scored six runs in an inning during both games of their doubleheader with the Truman Softball team to sweep on Saturday. The Bearcats won game one 7-6 and game two 10-2.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis.
Cassie Smith led off the day with a bang taking the first pitch she saw over the fence to stake the Bulldogs out to the early 1-0 lead. However, McKendree stormed back and sent all nine hitters to the plate in scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning. A hit by pitch and walk were followed by back-to-back home runs.
Emily Wood doubled in Cali Coombs in the third inning for the Bulldogs second run of the game.Â
Olivia Stansbury hit her second home run of the game in the sixth, which proved to be a critical run for the Bearcats to make it 7-2.
In the Bulldogs final at bat, Lily Arndt singled to start the inning and went to second on a wild pitch. Smith brought her in with an RBI single and Coombs kept the train moving with a single. Wood delivered a double to plate Smith, which brought the tying run to the plate with no outs. Following a strikeout and pop out, Cameryn Patterson brought in two runs with a single to left to cut the lead to 7-6. Unfortunately, a pop out to third ended the threat and the game.Â
McKendree hit their fourth home run of the day to go up 1-0 in the first of game two.
Truman answered back with two unearned runs in the second to take the lead. Abbi Danchus singled then scored on a wild pitch and Patterson scored off a fielders choice by Brieanna Klein.
The Bearcats got their fifth home run on the day in the bottom of the inning to tie things up then exploded for a six-spot in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth and sixth to win 10-2.Â
