INDIANAPOLIS – Building off two straight postseason tournament berths, the Truman Men's Soccer team was picked to be inside the top eight this year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer coaches' poll.
 
The 2023 team came within an eyelash of advancing to the conference's final four but two late goals by Indianapolis ended the Bulldogs season at 6-6-4 overall and 5-4-4 in league play. The five conference wins were the most by the squad since 2019.
 
Duke Cochran starts his 20^th season managing the team and is both the longest-tenured and winningest coach in the program's history with 136 victories.
 
Sophomore Corbin Clay returns as the top scorer from last season as he was among a trio of four-goal scorers. Six seniors also dot the squad in Holden Potter, Jon Buss, Colln Buss, Justin Olwig, Ibrahim Sakibu, and Evan Nidey.
 
Olwig has been a staple between the pipes for the Bulldogs the last three years as he has started 45 of the previous 46 matches played with a 1.33 goals against average and 10 shutouts.
 
The team will open up their regular season at home on a Thursday night, September 5^th against St. Cloud (Minn.) State at 7 p.m. at Stokes Stadium. Conference play opens up with a rematch with Indianapolis on September 15 at home.
 
Lewis was the coach's choice to win the GLVC regular season title, followed by the Greyhounds, Maryville and McKendree. Defending champion, Illinois Springfield was picked fifth.  Four of the top five schools all received at least one first-place vote in what is shaping up as a hotly contested regular season race.
