Kirksville, Mo. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced its 2025 All-Conference awards this week, and two Truman State men's soccer players were recognized for their standout seasons. Sophomore midfielder Jacob Panagos earned All-GLVC Second Team honors, while senior defender Zoran Sabbert was named Truman's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award recipient.
Panagos led the Bulldogs in nearly every offensive category during the 2025 campaign, finishing with seven goals and two assists for a team-best 16 points across 15 appearances. The sophomore midfielder converted three penalty kicks and notched a multi-goal game against Illinois Springfield and had another strike in Truman's 3–2 road comeback at St. Cloud State. Panagos' blend of creativity and consistency in the attacking third made him one of the top underclassmen in the GLVC.
"Jacob was the heartbeat of our attack this season," said head coach Duke Cochran. "He showed real maturity in how he led the midfield, and this recognition is a well-deserved reflection of the work he's put in since stepping on campus."
Defensively, Zoran Sabbert was recognized as Truman's representative on the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team, honoring student-athletes who display outstanding character, integrity, and leadership on and off the field. A two-year contributor on the Bulldogs' back line, Sabbert started all 16 matches this season and logged more than 1,400 minutes while anchoring the Truman defense.
"Zoran embodies everything we value in this program, toughness, selflessness, and sportsmanship," Cochran added. "He's been a model of consistency and leadership for our team."
The conference's major awards highlighted Lincoln's Kevon Maitland as Offensive Player of the Year, Rockhurst's Mattia Petricca as Defensive Player of the Year, and Franco Briani Brunoro as Goalkeeper of the Year. Illinois Springfield's Robin Lemke Bergseth earned Freshman of the Year, and Rockhurst's Tony Tocco was named Coach of the Year.
Truman closed the 2025 season with a 3-10-3 record, including GLVC victories over Upper Iowa and Quincy. The Bulldogs will return several key contributors in 2026, led by Panagos and Sabbert, as they aim to climb the conference standings.
