FAYETTE, Iowa - It took nearly the entire ninety minutes, but the Bulldogs, responding to a late Upper Iowa goal, defeated the Peacocks, 3-2, and earn their first conference win of the season.
Upper Iowa knotted the game at 2 -2 on a goal from Kehinde Afolabi, set up by a throw in in the 88th minute, and looked certain to end the game tied, but Truman State's
Oliver Doyle worked a corner to set up a final scoring chance with 26 seconds remaining.
Jacob Panagos took the corner from Spencer Slayton and got a header past the UIU keeper to put the Bulldogs up for good.
The Panagos goal, the first of his career, capped a wild last five minutes of the match started by a
Caden Hoehns penalty kick on an Upper Iowa handball to take a 2-1 lead before the tying goal by Afolabi. It was the second penalty kick from Hoehns on the night, both second half tallies, and ended a four-match scoreless streak where the Bulldogs went 0-3-1.
Truman State travels to Romeoville, Ill., to square off against Lewis (Ill.) University at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Flyers won their first GLVC contest Friday evening by way of a 1-0 victory over William Jewell (Mo.) College.
