TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - - The No. 11 Truman men's soccer team won its tenth match of the season and continued on its quest to reach the NCAA postseason by picking up a key 1-0 regional win on Sunday afternoon at Northeastern (Okla.) State.
Senior Bobby Larkin (St. Louis, Mo., Parkway) fired a one-timer past NSU keeper Jordan Ladbrooke with just over 18 minutes to play in regulation to give the Bulldogs (10-2-2) the one goal road win. Larkin, who is the NCAA leader in assists, scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Jonathan Brown (Perth, Scotland, Auchterarder).
After the teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half that saw Truman outshoot the Riverhawks, 8-5, the Bulldogs ratcheted up the intensity in the final 45 minutes, firing ten shots and protecting keeper Tyler Knierim (Hartsburg, Mo., Southern Boone), who stopped four first half shots on goal but wasn't challenged once in the second half.
For the match, Truman put 11 of its 18 total shots on frame, with three apiece coming from Larkin and senior Matt Kimball (Kirkwood, Mo., Kirkwood).
The Bulldogs will close the regular season next Friday and Sunday at the Newman (Kan.) University Invitational when they take on St. Mary's (Texas) and Texas A&M-International. Truman currently sits second in the NCAA South Central region, with the top two teams in the region advancing to the NCAA tournament.
