Twellman's Tally Leads Bulldogs

Box Score | Season Stats

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - - Sophomore Kelsey Twellman's goal in the 59th minute proved to be the only tally of the match, as the Truman women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 win to close the regular season at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (10-3-5, 9-2-5 MIAA) now will await their fate regarding the 2010 NCAA tournament, as Truman entered the week in the South Central region's final slot. The top six teams qualify for the tournament, with the Bulldogs coming in behind only Central Missouri in the MIAA this season.

Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) scored from ten yards out off a feed from fellow sophomore Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton), and redshirt freshman Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh) picked up her fifth shutout by stopping two Griffon shots on goal. Truman outshout MWSU (2-10-6, 2-8-6 MIAA), 22-4, for the match and held a 13-2 advantage in shots put on target. The Bulldogs also earned eight corner kicks.

With the win, Truman reached the 10-win mark for the 16th consecutive season and finished second in the MIAA with 32 total points.

NCAA championship selections will take place on Monday night, via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com. The show will cover both the men's and women's selection announcements and will begin promptly at 6 pm. Truman has earned an NCAA tournament berth in each of the last three seasons and eight times overall.
