Brown’s Goal, Assist Not Enough for Men’s Soccer on Road

HAYS, Kan. - - Senior Jonathan Brown scored a goal and added an assist in the second half for the Truman men's soccer team on Friday night, but Fort Hays State held tough at home by handing the Bulldogs a 3-2 setback.

After FHSU (9-2-2) scored with less than ten minutes to play in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break, Truman (3-10) got on the board just three minutes into the second half when Dylan Carter (O'Fallon, Mo., Fort Zumwalt West) took a Brown pass and scored to tie the game.

However, the Tigers added to their total twice in less than seven minutes, taking a 3-1 lead with 31 minutes to play in the match.

The Bulldogs wouldn't go quietly though, as Brown (Perth, Scotland, Auchterarder) scored his team-leading third goal of the year off a free kick to pull the purple and white to within one, 3-2, in the 67th minute. But despite earning six second-half corner kicks, the 'Dogs couldn't find the equalizer, falling by a lone goal.

FHSU outshot the Bulldogs 14-12 in the physical contest that saw 35 combined fouls and one card. Truman accumulated ten corner kicks in the match.

Truman swings through Wichita, Kan., to close out the weekend on Sunday when the squad battles Newman at 3:30 pm.
