FAYETTE, Iowa. – It took two overtimes to decide the match-up between the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and the Truman men's soccer team as the Bulldogs fall 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Sioux Falls (5-7-1) got on the board early, scoring their first goal in the 11th minute of the match with a header by Lance Norling. Norling's goal was from the left side of the field and he was assisted by Connor Shefte.
The score remained at 1-0 through the end of the first half, and it wasn't until 20 minutes before the end of regulation that Truman (3-12) got on the board. In the 70th minute,Andy Chapman (St. Louis, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South)received a cross-field pass from Jonathan Brown (Perth, Scotland, Auchterarder)to notch his team leading fourth goal of the season. Brown's assist was his fifth this fall.
Both teams would end regulation at 1-1 to go to overtime at the Upper Iowa Invitational. Each team provided strong defense that allowed zero goals in the first overtime. Finally, with five minute left of the second overtime, USF's Norling found the back of the net again with an unassisted goal to led the Cougars to a 2-1 victory over Truman.
Chapman led Truman with six shots, five of those on goal. Truman outshot USF 19-18 and posted 12 shots on goal.
The Bulldogs take the field again tomorrow morning at the UIU Invitational against the Marauders of the University of Mary. Kick-off is scheduled for 10:30 am.
