KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman men's soccer squad fell Friday afternoon in a 4-0 decision against Fort Hays State (Kan.) University.
Fort Hays (6-2-1) was unfazed by the windy conditions at the Truman Soccer Pitch, scoring four goals in the contest. Junior Tomas Mares got the offense going early, finding the back of the net in the 11
th minute of the game. Almost fifteen minutes later, Mares scored again after receiving a pass from forward Diego Cabral. The Bulldogs' (3-7)
Austin Hayden tried to rally back to make it 2-1 at the half but his shot was saved by Tiger goalkeeper Ryan Pakieser.
The second half was the same story for the Tigers, scoring two more times. Junior Ricardo Yeverino racked up both goals in the second half. His first, in the 48
th minute of the match, was scored from 30 yards out from a pass by Cabral. Then, in the 61
st minute, he connected with the back of the net again after a one on one match-up with Truman goalkeeper
Tyler Knierim. He leads the Tigers with 10 goals this season.
Truman led Fort Hays in shots (12-9) and corner kicks (7-3), but struggled to find the goal, only having two of their 12 shots on goal. Midfielder
Nick Franta led the 'Dogs in shots with three and both
Jonathan Brown and Hayden had a shot on goal.
The Bulldogs will take the field again with next Tuesday with a home match-up against William Jewell (Mo.) at 3:00 pm.
