KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Kati Austin and Kelsey Porter will join the Truman Women's Tennis team next fall according to Head Coach Pete Kendall. Austin is from Indianapolis, Ind. while Porter comes from Belleville, Ill.
Austin (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli HS) was a two-time all-county selection as well as earning honorable mention all-state accolades. She is a four-year letterwinner and broke school record for wins at number two singles as a sophomore with 18 in 2009. Her Rebel teams have made the regional finals in each of her four years on the squad. In addition, Austin won a Midwest team championship while playing number one singles on her United States Tennis Association team. Austin is a member of both the German National Honor Society and National Honor Society.
Porter (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic HS) is a four-year starter, playing the last three at number one singles for the Crusaders. A four-time all-conference, all-area and conference singles champion, Porter was recently named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch all-Metro team as a senior. Porter has played in the Illinois State tournament three times during her high school career, twice in doubles and once as a singles player.
"Kati and Kelsey, along with our early signee Kim Birenbaum, will bring much needed depth to our team," says Coach Pete Kendall. "Both are solid singles and doubles players with years of experience and I expect them to be in the starting lineup from the beginning."
