GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 19th-ranked Truman men's soccer team ended their Colorado road trip with a 2-1 victory over Dixie (Utah) State on Sunday afternoon.
With his first goal of the season, junior Ben Hasse started the Bulldog offense early with a goal off a corner kick by Jonathan Brown in the 19th minute. The Red Storm (1-2-1) fought back late in the first half with a goal by Jordan Roylance in the 43rd minute.
Both squads battled back and forth with shots on goal and saves by Bulldog goalkeeper Tyler Knierim and Dixie State goalkeeper Tyler Walters, but the 'Dogs prevailed with the game winning goal in the 77th minute by senior Matt Sanderson. Sanderson received a pass from forward Andy Chapman from the right side and connected with the back of the net.
Truman (2-2) was outshot 12-10 in the match and had fewer corner kicks, but the eight shots on goal compared to the five by the Red Storm helped give the Bulldogs the edge. Brown led the 'Dogs with four shots followed by Hasse's two.
The Bulldogs will head back to Missouri with their next match-up coming against future MIAA-member Lindenwood (Mo.) University on Wednesday, Sept. 14th at 7:00 in St. Charles, Mo.
