FAYETTE, Iowa – An early goal by Upper Iowa stood to be the difference in a 1-0 victory against the Truman men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (3-5) led in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks, but Upper Iowa (4-3-1) forward Derek Oelmann found a crack in Truman's defense and scored in the 8th minute of the match from 30 yards out.
Four members of the Bulldogs contributed five shots, including Jonathan Brown who led the team with two shots on goal. Truman outshot the Peacocks 27-16 and had the edge with shots on goal, 6-4.
The two teams will meet again this season in Truman's next contest, but this time back in Kirksville on Oct. 5th. The Upper Iowa game will be the Bulldogs' first home game of the 2011 season.
