Week At-a-Glance:
Finally, after starting the season with eight straight matches on the road, the Truman men's soccer team will stay in Kirksville to begin their four game homestretch this upcoming week. For the first of the next set of matches, the 'Dogs will host Upper Iowa, who just saw the Bulldogs when they traveled north to Fayette, Iowa. The Peacocks will have one game in between the two Truman matches.
In the next match-up, the Fort Hays State (Kan.) Tigers will travel to Kirksville on Oct. 7th for the first ever meeting between the two schools. This is the Tigers first season of intercollegiate soccer.
For the third of the four-game homestretch, the Bulldogs will host soon-to-be Division II William Jewell College (Mo.) on Oct. 11th. Truman will meet the Cardinals for the second time in history.

Scouting the Peacocks:
The previous match the 'Dogs competed in was up in Fayette, Iowa, the home of Division II foe Upper Iowa, where they were defeated in a 0-1 shutout. Truman led the game in most categories, including shots and shots on goal, but struggled to find the back of the net.
The Peacocks have compiled a 4-3-1 record this season, with shutouts in all four of their victories. Upper Iowa will have one match before heading to Kirksville to see the 'Dogs for the second time this season.
Last week's loss was the first loss Truman had had against Upper Iowa. The Bulldogs now hold a 7-1-0 record against the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent.
The Bulldogs will need to keep an eye out on senior forward Derek Oelmann, as he continues to lead Upper Iowa in goals, assists, shots and shots on goal. In the first meeting against the 'Dogs, Oelmann scored the lone goal early in the first half.
Scouting the Tigers:
This season marks the inaugural season for the Fort Hays State Tigers. The Tigers have begun the program with a solid start, compiling a 5-2-1 record with both losses ending in a 1-0 shutout.
In the eight games that the Tigers have played, they have outshot their opponents 120-99 and have scored 1.75 goals to their opponents .88 goals a game. Of their 120 shots, almost half of those have been on goal (58 shots).
Ricardo Yeverino and Diego Cabral provide for most of Fort Hays' offense. Yeverino is up to eight goals for the season and Cabral has provided the second most shots on the squad with 31.
Scouting the Cardinals:
As a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the William Jewell (Mo.) Cardinals have posted a 4-4 record through Sept. 29th, with four games before coming to Kirksville. So far this season, the Cardinals are 0-3 on the road and 4-1 on their home turf. Both William Jewell and Truman have been defeated by #7 Missouri S&T University this season.
In their last contest against University of Southern Indiana, junior Midfielder Forrest McCurren led the Cardinals to a 6-2 victory after successfully completing a hat trick during the match. McCurren leads the squad with seven goals this season.
Truman is 0-1 all-time against William Jewell after a 3-0 defeat, Sept. 5th, 2010 in Liberty, Mo.
Bulldogs vs. UIU/FHSU/WJC:
-
Andy Chapman,
Tony Diepenbrock and
Matt Langley each recorded a shot on goal in Truman's only contest against William Jewell last season.
-Junior
Ben Hasse recorded two shots against Upper Iowa on Oct. 11th, 2010.
-No Bulldog has ever faced Fort Hays State University.
-Goalkeeper
Tyler Knierim tallied up two saves in a 5-0 against Upper Iowa last fall.
'Dogs Look to Keep Attendance Up At Home Games:
Last season, the Truman Bulldogs finished 13th in Division II in home attendance average. The Bulldogs had eight home games last season with an average of 352 fans per game. Although the men's soccer team only has four home games this fall, they look to keep the high home game attendance.
Upperclassmen Offense:
In the first eight games of the 2011 season, two Bulldogs stand out when it comes down to overall offense. Both senior
Jonathan Brown and junior
Andy Chapman lead the 'Dogs with 23 shots in eight games. That is 14 or more shots than other member on the squad. The two combine for half of the goals and more than half of the assists for the Bulldogs. Brown has compiled a .478 shot on goal percentage while Chapman has racked up a .391 percentage. The Bulldog squad has 93 shots this season with a .409 shot on goal percentage.
Road Warriors:
The 2011 Bulldogs will spend the majority of the season away from Kirksville, as 12 of the 16 games are either road or neutral site contests. Overall, the 'Dogs will log just more than 5,000 miles this season, or, enough to go to Boston, Mass., and back…twice.
I'm Sorry, I?Didn't Catch Your Name...:
Five teams on the 2011 slate are new opponents for the Bulldog program, including Dixie (Utah) State, Central (Iowa), Fort Hays (Kan.), Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Mary (N.D.).
Up Next:
The 'Dogs will finish up their homestretch on Oct. 16th with an afternoon game against soon to be Div. II member Lindenwood (Mo.) University, whom Truman lost in OT to earlier this season. Following that match-up on Oct. 21st, Truman will hit the road again and travel to Kansas for a night contest against Fort Hays State University at 7:00 pm. While in Kansas, Truman will travel to Newman (Kan.) University on Oct. 23rd for a Division II match-up set to kick-off at 3:30 pm.
