Men's Soccer Shuts Down Peacocks in Regular Season Finale

Box Score || Season Stats
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Senior forward Andy Chapman scored in the game's ninth minute, and the Bulldog defense made it stand as the Truman men's soccer team closed the 2012 regular season with a 1-0 win against Upper Iowa on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 10-5-1 overall (7-2-1 MIAA) and secured their spot in the first of two MIAA semifinals next Thursday (Nov. 1). Truman will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed depending on tonight's other results and will play at 4:00 pm for the right to play in the MIAA Championship.

The Bulldogs came out quickly, applying early pressure in the Peacock end of the field. The tactic paid off as UIU (3-12, 2-8 MIAA) turned it over in its own end, leading freshman Will Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) to find a streaking Chapman (St. Louis, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South) wide open in the middle of the box for his MIAA-leading 13th goal of the season.

Truman had a multitude of chances the rest of the way, forcing UIU keeper Jordan Bell to make 13 saves, but the Peacocks stayed alive and kept the match in doubt until the final whistle. Drew Garrone (Chesterfield, Mo., Lafayette) made four saves for the Bulldogs, earning his second shutout of the season.

Chapman's 13th goal of the year puts him in Truman's all-time top-10 for single-season goals and ties him for ninth all-time for career goals with 29.
