'Dogs Downed In Hays 7-2

HAYS, Kan. – The Truman women's tennis team opened up MIAA play on Saturday by heading to Fort Hays State and falling 7-2. The Bulldogs have three home duals on the scheduled in the upcoming week starting on Monday against the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 2:00 p.m.
 
The Tigers took the first two doubles matches before Caitlyn Wark and Brianna Watkins were able to gain the sweep with a 9-8 (7-5) win over Jessica Gennuso and Kelsey Porter.
 
In singles, Maggie Schutte picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory at number four for the Bulldogs and Kati Austin was a straight set (6-0, 6-4) winner at number six to get Truman's lone match points. Kim Birenbaum pushed Wark in their match at number three, Wark scored a 7-5 and 6-4 straight set win.
 
The Bulldogs are now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA. They will host the Lopers at 2:00 p.m. Monday before returning to league action on Wednesday against Lincoln (Mo.) University and rounding out the week with a non-conference battle with Lewis University at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
