PITTSBURG, Kan. - - After an eight-day layoff, the Truman softball team dropped both ends of an MIAA doubleheader at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University on Sunday, falling 3-2 in PSU's last at-bat in the opener before losing 10-2 in five innings in the finale.

Freshman Kelsea Dorsey (Clarksville, Mo.) was hit with the hard-luck loss in the first game, as Pitt State took advantage of three Bulldog errors to score all of its runs. After falling behind 2-0, the Bulldogs got on the board in the third on a Liz Leath (St. Charles, Mo.) RBI double before drawing even in the fourth on an Ally McReynolds (Wildwood, Mo.) RBI single. The squads played to the last of the seventh, where the Gorillas put the leadoff runner aboard via error before a throwing error allowed her to score and win the game. Laura Miller (Columbia, Mo.) had two hits in the No. 2 spot for the 'Dogs, while Dorsea struck out seven in going the distance.

Then, in game two, Truman jumped ahead 2-0 with single runs in the first and second innings. Bridget Schade (Herculaneum, Mo.) and Kristin Grossman (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) provided RBI groundouts before Pitt State (15-16, 4-0 MIAA) scored one in its half of the second before exploding for nine runs in the third. Katie Pitts (Jefferson City, Mo.) and Corey Niblett (Troy, Mo.) had two hits apiece, while both Ashley Rotkvich (Crestwood, Ill.) and Kirsten Krause (St. Louis, Mo.) spent time in the circle.

The Bulldogs, now 12-17 (1-7 MIAA) on the season, wrap up a quick two-day road trip with a 2:00 pm doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Missouri Southern. MSSU (10-17, 2-0 MIAA) swept Northwest Missouri on Sunday afternoon to open MIAA play.
