Softball Bats Break Out in Game Two for Split

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- Nine runs in game two of a doubleheader propelled the Truman women's softball team to split with Fort Hays (Kan.) State on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell in game one 10-2 before taking game two 9-3.
 
Truman (20-25, 4-12 MIAA) struggled to get the offense going early in game one, producing its two runs on only four hits. Laura Miller (Columbia, Mo., Hickman) picked up her ninth stolen base in the first game along with one of the four Bulldog hits. The Tigers (24-15, 8-5 MIAA) pounced early on the Bulldogs, scoring five of its 10 runs in the first two innings. A homerun in the fourth and three more runs in the last two innings by the Tigers finished off the Bulldogs in game one.
 
Game two started on a completely different note, with the 'Dogs running off five runs in the first inning and four in the fourth to go on to take the 9-3 victory. Kelsea Dorsey (Clarksville, Mo., Clopton) pitched another gem, putting in seven innings of work with nine strikeouts and three earned runs. Several Bulldogs ignited the Truman offense, including Katie Pitts (Jefferson City, Mo., Helias) who finished game two with a 3-for-4 mark and two RBI's and Liz Leath (St. Charles, Mo., Francis Howell Central) going 2-for-2 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs finished game two with 10 total hits.
 
The Bulldogs continue their home stretch with a doubleheader on Tuesday (April 17) against Washburn (Kan.) University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
