Opening Kickoff:
As the 2013 season hits the midway point this weekend, the Truman men's soccer team welcomes a pair of in-state conference foes to the Bulldog Soccer Park when long-time rival Rockhurst and William Jewell both travel to Kirksville.

The Bulldogs (5-2-1, 3-2-1 GLVC) will take on teams sitting on both sides of them in the GLVC standings at home, beginning Friday at 3:30 pm against 16th-ranked Rockhurst. The Hawks check in at 6-1-1 overall and are tied for first atop the league table with Lewis – a double overtime escapee two weeks ago at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

Meanwhile, the William Jewell Cardinals are set to visit Kirksville on Sunday at 2:30, following a Friday evening stop at Quincy. The Cardinals are 4-5 overall on the year and 2-4 in league play.

Truman has tied its longest unbeaten streak of the season – three – entering this week's action, having earned a 1-1 draw last Friday at Indianapolis before picking up a 2-1 win last Sunday at Saint Joseph's. Nick Tolmais, Zach Hollstrom, and Tony Luedecke all scored for the Bulldogs on the road trip, which built on the team's 2-1 home win on Sept. 22 against UW-Parkside to start the current stretch.

Keeper Drew Garrone lowered his season-long goals-against average to 1.00 by making five saves and allowing just two goals last weekend. He has made all eight starts in net this season, posting a 75.0% save percentage and two shutouts.

Duke Cochran has an 86-53-13 (.609) record at the helm and is in his ninth season with the program.

Opponent Quick Glance:
The No. 16 Rockhurst Hawks come into Friday riding a six-match unbeaten streak, dating back to the second match of the season when they were downed 1-0 by Northeastern (Okla.) State. The Hawks are out-scoring opponents 18-4 on the year and have out-shot their opposition by a 165-62 margin. Mark Magee is the team's leader in goals (5), assists (3) and points (13), while Mitchell Moncada is right on his heels with four goals of his own. Ryan Bass has played every minute in net, posting a 0.49 goals-against average and an 81.8% save mark en route to five shutouts.

William Jewell has traded wins and losses in its last six outings and has fallen victim to overtime losses twice this season. The Cardinals have been out-scored 14-11 overall and out-shot by a 140-81 tally. Of the team's 11 goals, Quentin Souder and Zane Christenson are responsible for two each, with the duo combining for five of the team's nine assists. Shave Van Hooser has played every minute in net, posting a 1.51 goals-against average and a 78.8% save line with two shutouts.

'Dogs In Control:
Of the nearly 756 minutes of action through the team's eight matches this year, the Bulldogs have either led or been tied a resounding 94.9% of the time. Truman has spent just 39 minutes and two seconds trailing this year, with the majority of that coming during the first half of the Sept. 22 win against UW-Parkside.

Nick GOAL-mais Pacing the Bulldog Offense:
Sophomore midfielder Nick Tolmais leads the Bulldogs in goals (6) and points (13) this season, having also put 12 of his 21 total shots on target. He has been Truman's marksman from the penalty spot – putting home all three of the 'Dogs' PK attempts this year – and has scored the game's first goal three different times.

For his career, Tolmais has eight goals and three assists in 18 appearances.

Garrone Off to Hot Start:
Junior keeper Drew Garrone is out to his best start in three seasons between the pipes, recording 24 saves and posting a GAA of 1.00 – well below his career line of 1.56. His five wins this season has nearly matched his career total entering the season (6), and he is less than 300 minutes away from surpassing his previous season-high.

Dual Threat:
Senior defender Matt Langley has established his dominance on both ends of the field, helping the Bulldog back line to the fourth-strongest defense in the GLVC while also tying for second on the squad with three goals scored. For his career, Langley has scored seven goals and made 51 appearances as a staple of the back line.

Welcome to Kirksville:
Redshirt freshman transfer Zach Hollstrom has made an immediate impact as part of the Bulldog attack, scoring three goals and adding an assist in eight games this year. After sitting out his first season at Div. I Michigan State, Hollstrom has made seven starts and put six of his 10 total shots on target.

He was responsible for the game-winning goal against Upper Iowa on Sept. 8, and got the Bulldogs on the board in the Sept. 29 win at Saint Joseph's.

GLVC Standings Breakdown:
With 40% of the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season in the books, all 16 teams will pass the midway point this weekend with matches number 7 and 8 of the 15-game schedule.

A quartet of schools have put a bit of separation between themselves and the rest of the league, as Lewis, Rockhurst, Drury and Quincy have all gotten to the five-win mark through six contests. From there, six other teams have secured three wins with the lone differences coming in the number of draws between those squads. Truman is in that mix, sitting a point behind UIndy (3-1-2) and tied with Bellarmine and Missouri S&T at 3-2-1.

Both WJC and Missouri-St. Louis are holding at 2-4, followed by SJC and Southern Indiana at 1-5. McKendree and Maryville are both still looking for their first league wins.

At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams are invited to the GLVC tournament, with quarterfinals taking place on campus sites prior to the semifinals and championship at the highest remaining seed on Nov. 8-10.

The Bulldogs were picked to finish 12th in its first season of Great Lakes Valley Conference action, as announced on August 22nd by the league office.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will spend the University's fall break on a bus in southern Missouri, stopping at Missouri S&T on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 pm before closing the weekend at No. 4 Drury on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2:30 pm.
