KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team mounted a furious second-half rally against the nation's No. 16 team, but a two-goal deficit proved too much to overcome, as the Bulldogs fell 2-1 to in-state rival Rockhurst on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

The Bulldogs (5-3-1, 3-3-1 GLVC) gave up goals in the 22nd and 53rd minutes to spot the No. 16 Hawks (7-1-1, 6-0-1 GLVC) lead. Senior Dylan Carter, however, took a pair of passes from Austin Hayden and Zach Hollstrom and brought Truman back to within one at 2-1 with 30 minutes and change to play in the match.

From there, the squads played end-to-end, with Truman out-shooting RU 4-2 in the second half, but a pair of key saves by Hawk keeper Ryan Bass made the difference in keeping the Bulldogs away from earning a home point in the league standings.

For the match, RU held a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in shots on target, with Bulldog keeper Drew Garrone making three saves in the 90 minutes.

Truman returns to action on Sunday when it hosts William Jewell at 2:30 pm in Kirksville.
