Truman Drops Three Game Series To Lopers

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Truman Baseball team lost all three games of a weekend series against the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Truman will return to action with a non-conference single-game with the University of Missouri on Wednesday and back to league play on Thursday at Lincoln (Mo.).
 
Paul Trenhaile continued his hot hitting for the Bulldogs as he went five of 10 with four runs batted in including a double and triple during the three game series.  Trenhaile pushed his season average to .432 and leads the team with 14 RBIs. The Bulldogs also converted on eight of 12 stolen base attempts and have been successful on 22 of 28 this season.
 
However, six of the Lopers' starters hit over .400 and the team hit .389 while belting six home runs in getting the sweep. Brian Wuest led UNK with a .625 batting average and Dillon Schroeder was 6-of-12 with four extra base hits.

UNK 9, Truman 8
 
An RBI single by Danny Droll in the sixth proved to be the difference in a 9-8 Loper victory in the opener. Droll singled in Brian Wuest after the Bulldogs had fought back twice to tie the game in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
UNK led 5-1 after two but Paul Trenhaile singled and scored in the fourth and Chris Zrostlik singled in a pair in a three-run fifth to give the Bulldogs the lead, momentarily at 6-5.
 
The Lopers tied the game back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from number eight hitter Brandon Landanger and retook the lead on a two-run shot by Dillon Schroeder.
 
Corbin Williams squared things back up in the sixth with a two-run single but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double.
 
Taylor Brooks took the loss in relief of Mark Roberts while Ross Mortensen pitched two innings and was the winner for UNK.

UNK 13, Truman 4
 
The Lopers used the long ball to defeat the Bulldogs in game two. UNK hit four homers in the game with Brian Wuest erasing a 1-0 Truman lead in the bottom of the first with a three-run shot and Dillion Schroeder hit the second of the inning to make it 5-1.
 
UNK would score three more in the second and then got a grand slam from Max Ayoub in the fifth to break things wide open. Eric Ringblom hit the final homer of the game in the sixth.
 
Paul Trenhaile had two RBI singles and Joe Emery drove in the other two on a basehit and sac fly.
 
Tim Lee was the pitcher of record for the Bulldogs going five innings and starter Carlos Palomo went seven to earn the win for the Lopers.

UNK 9, Truman 4
 
The middle innings were tough on the Bulldogs after they had evened the game at two apiece in the fourth inning.
 
The Lopers got a sac fly and a two-out single to go up 2-0 but Corbin Williams drove in Chris Zrostlik in the third and Blake Marino's RBI double in the fourth knotted the game.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the first four UNK hitters reach and it resulted in a two run inning that made it 4-2.
 
The Lopers got three insurance runs in the fifth and scored two more in the sixth to make it 9-2.
Jarod Hahn drove in one in the seventh on a fielders' choice and Paul Trenhaile followed with an RBI triple for the game's final runs.
 
Starter Tyler McCreary was credited with the loss for Truman.
