Women's Tennis Grabs First League Win

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Tennis team defeated Missouri Western 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon to pick up their first league victory of the season. The team will return to action on Friday morning when they host Nebraska-Kearney at 10:00 a.m.
 
The doubles matches were split at one apiece until Maggi Schutte and Kim Birenbaum were able to pull out a 9-8 (7-1) victory at number one to grab the go-ahead point.
 
In singles, it was all Truman as they took five of six matches, four by straight sets.
 
Schutte was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at number one. Jessica Gennuso won 6-1, 6-4 at number three, Tess Severin rallied to win number four 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, Lauren Higgins won number five 6-3, 6-1 and Kelsey Porter won number six 6-1, 6-1.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 4-3 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.
