Harding Sweeps Bulldogs In Opening Weekend Series

SEARCY, Ark. – The Truman Baseball team was swept in their opening weekend series by Harding (Ark.) University. The Bulldogs lost Sunday's finale by a 9-4 tally. The team is scheduled next to play at home on March 1-2 against the University of Illinois Springfield.

Paul Trenhaile was six for 10 over the three-game series with a pair of doubles and a stolen base while Corban Williams had four hits in 12 at bats and a pair of swipes.

The Bulldogs leading RBI man picked up where he left off from last season as Paul Trenhaile opened up the 2014 campaign with a single up the middle to score Zak Larkin in the fourth inning of the opener.
 
The Bison evened things up against starter Tim Lee with a two-out base hit from Matt Calhoun through the right side of the infield.
 
Truman didn't waste time in jumping back on top as Dave Gambino doubled down the left field line to plate both Jarod Hahn and Trenhaile for the 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs looked for the big inning but stranded the bases loaded.
 
After getting out of the jam in the top of the sixth, the Bison got another key two-out single by John Chapman to knot things up again.
 
Trenhaile doubled in the seventh and advanced to third with two outs on a wild pitch but Jeff Belknap got Blake Deaton swinging to end the threat. In the bottom of the frame, Alex Hoffman made his Bulldog debut and was greeted with a double by Zac Stewart. Noah Chandler successfully bunted Stewart home and runners advanced on a throwing error. James Anderson followed with a two-run single to right to open things up.
 
Harding added two more runs in the eighth.
 
Lee was solid going six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while Hoffman was tagged with the loss.

Harding 3, Truman 2 (8 Innings)
Game two of the series needed extra innings to be decided and Truman had golden chances to win.
 
After Paul Trenhaile tied the game in the fifth while scoring on a wild pitch, the Bulldogs had first and third with one out in the top of the seventh, of the scheduled seven inning contest. The Bison summoned Zac Stewart in from the bullpen and he promptly struck out Trenhaile and Corban Williams to end the inning.
 
The Bison scored the winning run in the eighth when Erin McCarver scored on a wild pitch by Taylor Brooks with two outs in the inning.
 
Trenhaile and Zrostlik collected a pair of hits in game two with Mark Roberts going six innings on the hill with one earned run and four strikeouts.

Harding 9, Truman 4
 
The Bulldogs jumped on top 2-0 in the top of the first. Corban Williams singled and stole second then advanced to third and came home on consecutive wild pitches by the Bison hurler. Paul Trenhaile coaxed a walk on a full count and came around the score following the fourth wild pitch of the inning.
 
Harding did their damage with seven runs between the third and fourth innings. The Bison had scored three when Tyler Spencer was replaced by Sam Reuter, who was greeted by an RBI double off the bat of Erin McCarver.
 
Truman grabbed a run back as Blake Deaton singled and later scored on an error but the Bulldogs left a pair on base.
 
The Bison pushed three across the plate in the bottom half of the inning and add single runs in the fifth and seven inning while tallying 11 hits on the day.
