Bulldog Tennis Edged Out By Ashford Saturday

CLINTON, Iowa – Both Truman Tennis teams suffered narrow 5-4 setbacks on Saturday to Ashford (Iowa) University.
 
Adam King and Ryan Bunselmeyer picked up a doubles point with an 8-6 win at number three, however the other two teams lost identical 8-3 matches to fall behind 2-1 heading into singles.
 
Jake Ohlhausen, Joe Murphy-Baum and King were all singles winners but the Eagles got a three-set win at number three singles and two straight set wins at five and six to win the dual 5-4.
 
The women trailed 2-1 after doubles as well with Savannah Everett and Lauren Jin winning 8-6 at number two while one and three both lost matches by the same 8-2 score.
 
Truman picked up singles wins by Hannah Runez at number three, Marisa Thome at number four and Holly Cantalupo at number six while the Eagles won in straight sets at one, two and at the five singles spot. Thome's match was the only to go three sets as she rallied after falling behind 0-6 in the first to win 6-3, 6-1.
 
The men return to action next Sunday against Bellarmine (Ky.) University in a neutral site match held in Principia (Ill.) College outside of St. Louis.  The women are off until Tuesday, March 4 when they will join the men for a home double dual against Missouri Valley College in Kirksville starting at 2:00 p.m.
