CANYON, Texas - - A 14-kill, 19-dig double-double – both career-highs – by sophomore Kayla Bastian helped guide the Truman volleyball team to a split on Friday afternoon, as the Bulldogs rebounded from a 3-0 loss to Regis (Colo.) in the season-opener with a 3-0 sweep of Adams (Colo.) State in the nightcap.

Bastian blew past her previous career-bests in both kills and digs against ASU (0-2), by hitting .429 on 28 swings to propel Truman to set wins of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-14. Junior teammate Ali Patterson matched her .429 total with eight kills on 14 attacks, while also adding three blocks for 11 total points. Truman hit .211 for the match but suffocated ASU defensively by limiting its cross-net foe to just an .027 attack percentage.

"The girls responded well this evening and played a complete match against a young and athletic Adams State team," head coach Ben Briney said.

Truman needed to respond after starting the season on a sour note, as the Rangers of Regis used late-set rallies to pull away for a 3-0 (-16, -20, -21) sweep of the Bulldogs. The purple and white hit just .089 for the match and were led offensively by senior Allie Brak's eight kills. Sophomore Kayleen Green twirled a 24-assist, 10-dig double-double, while senior Abby Moser dealt three service aces.

Moser also posted 34 digs in the six sets, recording 19 against Regis and 15 against ASU.

"We came out flat against Regis, and they took advantage of the opportunities we gave them," Briney said. "We'll get some rest tonight and come back ready to keep improving tomorrow."

The Bulldogs will play twice more on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. against New Mexico Highlands, who also went 1-1 on day one action. Truman closes the event with a 5 p.m. clash with Colorado Mesa.
