Tennis Recap: Truman Drops Pair To Division I Opponents

DES MOINES – The Truman Women's Tennis team began their spring season by stepping up to face a pair of Division I schools indoors at Drake (Iowa) University. The Bulldogs lost 7-0 to the Drake Bulldogs and 6-1 to Nebraska-Omaha.

Division I counts the three doubles matches as one team point and Drake grabbed that point by sweeping all three doubles matches by 6-0 scores.

In singles, Lauren Jin was the only Truman player to win games as she fell 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles.

Against the Mavericks, UNO won two of three doubles matches with the third between Jin an Savannah Everett against Molly Matricardi and Kenzie Hill went unfinished with the score 4-3.

Lindsey Schlichting won Truman's point at number four singles. Schlichting won the first set 6-2 but lost set two 7-6 before prevailing in the tie-break.

Jin lost 6-2, 6-3 at number two, Marisa Thome fell 6-0, 6-3 at number three and Kati Austin lost 6-3, 6-1 at number five.

The Bulldogs will compete next in a non-conference neutral-site match with Bellarmine (Ky.) University on February 15 in St. Louis.
