First Pitch:
Season number 43 of Truman State University softball pushes off this weekend, as the Bulldogs head to Bentonville, Ark., to compete in the 2015 Arkansas-Monticello Div. II Softball Classic on Friday through Sunday.

Truman will play six games in three days at the event, which spread across two venues and seven fields in the Bentonville area. The Bulldogs will face Harding (Ark.) at 9 a.m. and Missouri Western at 11 a.m. on Friday; Fort Hays (Kan.) State at 9 a.m. and Southern Arkansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday; and both Missouri Southern at 9 a.m. and Arkansas Tech at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Erin Brown begins her ninth season as the program's head coach, having most recently led the 2014 Bulldog bunch to the NCAA Div. II tournament. Last year's crew finished with a 43-13 overall record and landed eight players on Great Lakes Valley Conference all-league teams – including seven on the first-team. Headlining the seven players named to the first-team was the GLVC co-Pitcher of the Year Kindra Henze, along with returning seniors Liz Leath, Andrea Klipsch, and Cate Simon.

Bulldog Tweet-ables (140 characters or less):
  • #RosterBreakdown: This year's team features 19 players, including 11 returners and eight newcomers.
  • #IKnowHer: Corey Niblett, fresh off a 4-yr playing career as a Bulldog, moves to the coaching side this year as a student assistant.
  • #SBHistory: This weekend starts the 43rd season of SB at Truman. The all-time record is 944-724-1 (.566).
  • #EightRecords: That's the number of team single-season records the 2014 team broke last season; six hitting, one fielding, one pitching.
  • #HeadCount: The 19 players on the opening day roster is the most carried by the program since the 2011 season (also 19).
  • #SeeYaGoodbye: Three active players – Cate Simon, Liz Leath, Andrea Klipsch – are already on Truman's top-10 career HR chart.
  • #Kwinning: Truman's two starters – Kelsea Dorsey & Kindra Henze – rank 7th and 9th already on career wins list.

"Oh, Arkansas":
This week marks the first time since 2006 that the Bulldogs haven't opened the regular season in the state of Alabama. From 2007-2013, the Bulldogs kicked off the year at the Alabama-Huntsville "Charger Chillout" before shifting to Florence, Ala., last season for the North Alabama Classic.

In 2006, the Bulldogs opened with two games at the snow-shortened Henderson (Ark.) State Tournament, where they went 1-1.

Bulldogs Picked Fourth in GLVC Preseason Poll:
The Truman State University softball team was selected fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll, announced last week by the league office. The Bulldogs earned 187 total points and one first-place vote in the poll, which this year ranked teams 1-16 since schools will not play divisional schedules in 2015.

Missouri-St. Louis earned 12 of the 16 first-place votes and totaled 222 points to top the coaches' 2015 prediction list, as the two-time defending GLVC Champion was ranked 13th nationally in the NFCA Division II Preseason Poll last week. Indianapolis tallied three first-place votes and 209 overall points to garner the second spot in the poll, with the Greyhounds landing a No. 21 ranking in last week's NFCA Division II Preseason Poll.

Just two points separated third place, with Bellarmine (Ky.) earning the advantage over Truman, as BU totaled 189 points in the poll to Truman's 187 (and final first-place vote). William Jewell, Lewis, Rockhurst, and Southern Indiana rounded out the top-half of the league predictions entering the 2015 season.

The top eight teams based off conference winning percentage will advance to the 2015 GLVC Championship Tournament, held May 1-3, in East Peoria, Illinois.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will head to St. Louis next Sunday (February 22) for an afternoon twinbill against former MIAA-rival Lindenwood. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
