Tennis Recap: Truman 5, Coe 4

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. – A third set tie-break victory by Holly Cantalupo at number six singles gave the Truman Women's Tennis team a 5-4 victory over Coe (Iowa) College on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs are scheduled to be at home against Illinois Springfield next Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 after the opening doubles matches with Lindsey Schlichting and Kelsey Porter prevailing 8-4 at number three. The first two doubles matches went to the Kohawks by identical 8-4 scores.

In singles, Lauren Jin was a straight set winner at number two by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Marisa Thome held on to win number three 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 and Kati Austin took number four 6-4, 6-1.

The match hinged on the number six battle between Cantalupo and Diannah Watson. Cantalupo dropped the first set 6-4 but came back to force the tie-break with a 6-3 win. In the third, it was all Cantalupo as she came away victorious 6-1 to get the clinching team point.

It was Truman's first dual match victory of the season and handed the Kohawks just their second loss out of 13 matches.
