Tennis Falls In Conference Opener To Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The Truman Tennis teams were swept by Quincy (Ill.) University on Saturday in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. The women were defeated 9-0 while the men fell 5-4. Truman will host Northwest Missouri on Sunday at noon.

Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith took the top doubles match by an 8-4 score but Quincy grabbed number two 8-3. The third match went down to the wire with the Hawks' Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley pulling out a 9-7 win over Austin Buck and Ryan Bunselmeyer.

In singles, Smith fell behind in set one but rallied to win set two to force a third set tie break. Smith took that one 10-1. Bunselmeyer won in straight sets over Ethan Arns 6-4, 6-4 at number three. Paul Province dropped his first set but came back to win number two 6-4 and the tie break 7-5 at number four singles. The other three matches went to the Hawks all in straight sets.

Truman narrowly missed out on two team points in the women's match. Kelsey Porter and Lindsey Schlichting battled to a 9-7 loss at number three doubles. Schlichting then stayed off a defeat with a second set win 7-6 to force a third set tie break but was then downed 10-3 at number four singles.

The women fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC while the men drop to 1-6 and 0-1 in the conference.
