Saturday's Recap

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Truman Baseball team righted the ship and earned the series split with McKendree (Ill.) University on Sunday by taking both ends of the doubleheader. The Bulldogs won the opener 7-3 before winning the nightcap 10-6.

The bottom of the order had the big weekend for the Bulldogs with T.J. Wood, Brendan Trimble and Wyatt Fones all hitting .500 in the set. Wood was 7-of-14 with four RBIs and three runs scored, Trimble scored five times on five hits and Fones had 3 RBIs on a 4-for-8 weekend.

Jarod Hahn made the most of his three hits as they were all home runs to right field. Hahn scored four times and drove in seven runs.

The Bulldog pitching staff surrendered 49 hits during the series (.360) but starters Kent Frantz and Alex Hoffmann each earned the wins.

Game 1 Recap: Kent Frantz pitched his third complete game of the season getting 15 of the possible 18 outs on the ground in the Bulldogs 7-3 win in the opener.

The 'Dogs wasted little time in getting things started after a slow offensive day on Saturday. Zak Larkin singled and stole second. Later, Dave Gambino brought Larkin in with a sac fly. Brendan Trimble singled up the middle to plate Paul Trenhaile. After a walk to Chris Iliopoulos to load the bases, Wyatt Fones got the two-run single to make it 4-0 Truman.

McKendree scratched across two in the third to cut the lead in half.

Fones and Wood both reached in the fourth and Hahn hit a towering drive over the right field scoreboard to put Truman up 7-2.

The Bearcats got a two rally going in the fifth and scored a run but Frantz kept the damage to a minimum inducing a groundout leaving a pair on base.

Adam Kunkel went 3-for-4 for McKendree in the loss.

Game 2 Recap: McKendree put base runners on in every inning until the last but Truman took advantage of five Bearcat errors to earn the series split 10-6. Alex Hoffmann got the win but the Bulldog bullpen limited the damage with Nate Lukas, Peter Young and Austin Tinsley shutting the door.

This time, McKendree got on the scoreboard first as a two-out single by Jake Kline scored Adam Kunkel. The ball went into deep short and the throw sailed over the first base bag allowing Kunkel to come in from second.

Truman responded in the bottom of the inning as Larkin started things off with a double. Jarod Hahn reached on a passed ball third strike and after a wild pitch moved the runners up, Trenhaile extended his hitting streak to a team-best 16 games with a two-run single. Trimble made it four runs in the frame with a RBI groundout.

The Bulldogs added another in the second to lead 5-1 as T.J. Wood scored on a wild pitch.

McKendree battled back with three in the sixth after the first two had been retired forcing Hoffman from the game.

Truman got the three runs back in their half of the inning when pinch hitter Adam Gregorich singled in Trimble and Blake Deaton who had both just previously moved up on a double steal.

The Bearcats added two more in the seventh to make it 8-6.

The tying run came to the plate in the eighth after a leadoff walk but Young got a pop out to second then a double play to kill the rally.

Truman responded with Gregorich belting his first collegiate home run to right center scoring Trimble and make the ninth a tad easier for the Bulldogs.

Austin Tinsley set the Bearcats down in order with a pair of strikeouts.
