Tennis Recap: Truman Edged By Missouri Valley

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – On their third straight day of action, the Truman Tennis teams lost narrow dual matches with Missouri Valley on Monday at home. The men fell by a 6-3 score while the women lost 5-4 to the Vikings.

Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith provided the team points in the men's match. The duo competed in the top doubles spot and earned an 8-4 victory while in the top two singles matches, Ohlhausen won a three-set affair at number one and Smith did the same at number two. In both matches, the Truman players each lost the opening set and rallied for the win.

However, the bottom half of the Vikings line-up came away with straight set wins to claim the victory.

The same scenario occurred in the women's match. Missouri Valley won the top two doubles matches and won the number one, two and three singles matches for their five team points while Truman won number three doubles and four, five and six singles matches.

Lindsey Schlichting, Kati Austin and Holly Cantalupo earned the singles wins for the women and Schlichting and Kelsey Porter nabbed the doubles point with an 8-3 win.

Kim Birenbaum nearly pulled out the victory for the Bulldogs at number one. Birenbaum lost set one 6-2 but stormed back to force a third set with a 6-1 victory. In the decisive set, it came down to the final point with the Missouri Valley player pulling out an 11-9 win.

Truman returns to the courts on Friday afternoon hosting Missouri-St. Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.
