Tennis Recap: Missouri-St. Louis Defeats Bulldogs

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Missouri-St. Louis Tritons swept a dual with the Truman Tennis teams on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs will travel to Liberty, Missouri for a date with William Jewell on Saturday morning.
 
In the women's match, UMSL won 8-1 over the Bulldogs with Marisa Thome earning the lone team point for Truman at number three singles. Thome dealt a loss to Natalia Carvalhais by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Kati Austin came up just short in trying to push her match to a third set tie break falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) while Holly Cantalupo was edged in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 10-5).
 
Thome and Kim Birenbaum started the day in a tight doubles match with Lina Parra and Chandler Duchaine. The Tritons tandem edged out the Bulldog top team by a 9-8 (7-3) score.
 
UMSL downed the men 9-0. Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith came up just short in the top doubles match. The duo fell 8-6 to Nils Mueggenburg and Harry Heyburn. Ohlhausen battled Mueggenburg in number one singles and fell in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 10-5).
 
Both Truman teams fall to 1-9 and 0-2 in the GLVC.
