SAUGET, Ill.  – Dave Gambino was six-of-eight at the plate in Truman's doubleheader sweep over Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon. Truman won the opener 5-2 and took the nightcap 7-4.

With the wins, Truman has their first six-game winning streak since 1982 and their best start to a season in program history, passing the 1992 5-0 opening mark.

Gambino drove in three on the afternoon with a double and triple among his six hits. Blake Deaton also had three RBIs and Paul Trenhaile and Jarod Hahn scored three times and each had a double.

Game 1 Recap:
Truman jumped on top in the opener with two runs in the top of the first. Deaton hit a sac fly bringing in Hahn and Brendan Trimble hit a two-out single scoring Trenhaile.

The Prairie Starts greeted starter Mark Roberts with consecutive doubles to lead off the bottom of the first to get a run back but Roberts retired the next three in order to strand the tying run at third.

Trenhaile doubled to start the fifth and would score on a sac fly off the bat of Trimble to make it 3-1.

T.J. Wood scored an unearned run in the sixth on Trenhaile's fielders' choice groundout but UIS got the run right back when Gabriel Acevedo lifted a Roberts' pitch over the left field wall in the bottom of the inning.

Truman added an insurance run in the ninth on another sac fly from Deaton that plated Trenahile.

Roberts left after six and was followed by Andrew Range and Austin Tinsley. Range tossed a pair of innings allowing one hit and Tinsley got the save fanning a pair of UIS hitters. Roberts moved to 2-0 on the season and Tinsley picked up his second save.

Game 2 Recap:
Gambino was three for three with three RBIs in the Bulldogs 7-4 win in the nightcap. Adam Gregorich started things by being hit by a pitch in the third inning and scored on a balk. Gambino plated Jarod Hahn with a sac fly but Truman's rally ended when Trenhaile was punched out at the plate on a single by Blake Deaton.

Gambino led off the sixth with his triple and scored on Deaton's single up the middle. Deaton then swiped a pair of bases moving into scoring position and came in on Kyle Smith's fielder's choice groundout.

Cody Gardner was dealing for the Bulldogs as he had six strikeouts and allowed three hits through the first five innings but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. A double and single was followed by a three-run homer off the bat of Alex Bradley to tighten things up at 4-3. Gardner got out of the inning picking off pinch runner Kyle Hunsinger.

The Bulldogs busted things open in the top half of the final inning. Zak Larkin doubled in T.J. Wood and with two on, Deaton doubled to left scoring both Hahn and Larkin.

Truman conceded a run on a ground out in the bottom of the seventh and Gardner got John Schram to fly out to end things. Gardner struck out seven to earn the complete-game victory.

The teams will wrap-up the four-game set on Sunday starting at noon.
