SPRINGFIELD, Mo.  – Paul Trenhaile broke out of a 4-for-20 slump with three hits and scored the game winning run as the Truman Baseball team took game one against the Drury Panthers 5-3 in 10 innings on Friday night.

The first six runs of the game, three by Truman and three by the Panthers were all via the long ball. Trenhaile opened things up with a two-run shot to center in the top of the first and Chris Iliopoulos made it 3-0 with a solo in the fourth.

Drury got a solo homer from Tyler Arthur in the bottom of the fourth and a two-run blast by Dallas Williams in the fifth to tie things up.

Both teams left two on in the ninth with Truman starter Cody Gardner getting the final two outs after two had reached with one out.

In the tenth, Trenhaile singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He would score the eventual game winning run on an infield single by Brendan Trimble. The Bulldog freshman moved into scoring postion on a sac bunt by Blake Deaton and then swiped third. He would come in on a throwing error by the pitcher after it was put in play by Iliopoulos.

Peter Young relieved Gardner and gave up a leadoff double to Williams. Then T.J. Wood stole the show. Wood caught the next two outs from his centerfield position then robbed Conner Wilson with a reaching catch over the fence that would have tied the game.

Gardner won his sixth game of the season allowing three runs on nine hits with Young earning his first collegiate save.

Trevor Richards tossed seven innings of five-hit ball for Drury and had a no-decision. Gage Jacobs was tagged with the loss going an inning and a third.

The two teams return to action with two seven-inning games starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
