Friday's Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.  – Blake Deaton and Paul Trenhaile combine for 10 hits and nine RBIs as Truman has taken two of the first three games in the four-game GLVC West Division series with Drury. The Panthers won game one 8-7 but the 'Dogs fought back to take game two, 6-2. The series will conclude on Sunday with a single game.

Deaton was 5-of-8 on the day with six RBIs and Trenhaile remained hot, also going 5-of-8 with four runs scored and drove in three. As a team, Truman hit .371 on the day with 23 base hits.

Game 1 Recap: The Bulldogs valiant comeback came up a run short as they fell 8-7 in the opener.

Things started out bright for Truman as Paul Trenhaile collected the first of three hits in the game to score Zak Larkin for a 1-0 lead. Deaton singled in Trenhaile to make it 2-0 before a double-play ended the inning.

A one-out error allowed the Panthers to push across a pair of runs to tie things up in the bottom of the first and Drury sent 10 hitters to the plate in the next inning to score five times and take a 7-2 lead. The big blow came off the bat of Dallas Williams as he belted a three-run homer to left.

Drury added a single run in the fifth that made it 8-2 but proved to be a vital run.

Jarod Hahn started the sixth with a base hit and Trenhaile followed with a double to center. Brendan Trimble grounded back to the mound and Hahn was called out at the plate but Deaton singled to left to score Trenhaile to make it 8-3.

The Bulldogs made things interesting in the seventh. Josh DeRouse pinch hit and was hit and T.J. Wood reached on an error. Larkin singled in DeRouse and Hahn grounded out to score Wood to make it 8-5. Trenhaile doubled in Larkin and later cut the lead down to one scoring on Trimble's groundout to third.

After a pitching change, Deaton grounded out to first to end the game.

Ryan Colombo got the win going six and two-thirds innings of work to move to 4-1 for Drury and Gage Jacobs picked up his ninth save of the season getting Deaton to end the game.

Mark Roberts took the loss surrendering nine hits and eight runs.

Game 2 Recap: In the nightcap, Blake Deaton drove in four of the six runs on three hits and Jarod Hahn added three more hits in the Bulldogs 6-2 victory. Kent Frantz moved to 6-0 on the season allowing four hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched and Peter Young notched his second save of the series.

Once again it was the top of the order that got things started in the first for Truman. Zak Larkin walked and Hahn singled. Trenhaile drove in Larkin with a single to left and Deaton singled to right to score Hahn. Drury limited the damage as they were able to catch Trenhaile in a rundown and tag him out at the plate for the second out of the inning and get Adam Gregorich looking for the third.

Frantz gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the first but that was erased on a line out double-play.
Deaton's two-out two-run double in the fifth pushed the lead to 4-0.

Frantz retired the first two in the sixth but was lifted after a single by Dallas Williams. Austin Tinsely allowed two more singles, the second being a two-run hit by Luke Tewes that cut Truman's lead to 4-2. Peter Young came in and got the final out of the inning.

Not resting on the lead, the Bulldogs got two clutch singles with two-outs to add a pair of insurance runs. Deaton singled to center to score Hahn and Chris Iliopoulos got one to left to score Brendan Trimble.

Young pitched an uneventful bottom of the seventh, getting three fly outs to end the game.
