Women's Tennis Breaks Through Against Illinois Springfield

Women's Match: Truman 5, Illinois Springfield 4
Men's Match: Illinois Springfield 8, Truman 1

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Truman women notched their first dual win of the season by a 5-4 score against the University of Illinois Springfield on Tuesday. The men dropped their match to the Prairie Stars by an 8-1 tally.

Savannah Everett and Elise Mousseau helped the Bulldogs take a 2-1 lead following doubles with an 8-6 victory at number three. Lauren Jin and Maura Dunn scored the first doubles point by winning 8-4 at number two while UIS claimed the number one doubles match 8-3.

Lindsey Schlichting won number three singles in straight sets to even the team score at three apiece after UIS took number one and two singles.

Everett earned a team point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number five and Mousseau clinched the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at number six.

The men could not recover after falling behind 3-0 in doubles matches. UIS' Sam Clarke and Santiago Pedraza held off Gavin Hatter and Griffen Turnage at number two by an 8-5 score and Paul Province and Travis Hopkins were dealt an 8-4 loss at number three.

UIS took all six singles matches by straight sets.

The men will head to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional tournament, which will be played in Allendale, Michigan, this weekend. Both teams will be back in dual action next week against rival Quincy on the road on September 22.
