Quincy Edges Truman In Pair Of Tennis Duals

Women's Match: Quincy 6, Truman 3
Men's Match: Illinois Quincy 5, Truman 4

QUINCY, Ill. – The Truman Tennis teams fell in a pair of hotly contested duals against the Quincy Hawks on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldog men lost 5-4 while the women fell 6-3.

Paul Province and Travis Hopkins grabbed the lone team point in doubles as they won number three by an 8-1 score. The other two matches went the Hawks way by identical 8-5 scores.

In singles, Province was a 7-6, 7-6 winner at number two. Gavin Hatter won 6-1, 6-4 at number three and Hopkins won 6-1, 6-0 at number six. Quincy won number 1 and four singles in straight sets and the match was tied a four with the number five singles on the court.

Griffin Turnage lost 7-6 in the first set to Chris Bueler but came back to force a tie break, winning set two 6-4. In the finale, Bueler came away with the match clinching point with a 6-2 set victory.

Marisa Thome and Lindsey Schlichting staked the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead with an 8-3 win in the number one doubles match. Quincy evened the score with an 8-3 victory of their own at number two.

The third match needed an extra game as Amy Kuhle and Anna Konczak defeated Savannah Everett and Elise Mousseau by a 9-7 score and the 2-1 match lead.

Schlichting and Mousseau came away with singles wins. Schlichting won 7-6, 6-0 at number three and Mousseau won handily at number six by a 6-0, 6-1 tally.

The Quincy dual was the fall finale for the Truman men's team while the women will compete in a pair of tournaments to end their fall season. The Bulldogs will be at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional over the weekend in Indianapolis then at the Missouri-St. Louis tournament the following weekend.
